We have a few items to pass along regarding neighborhood parks this afternoon.

  • First off, the city’s Parks Department will go before a Community Board 3 panel tomorrow evening to present completed plans for the redesign of Luther Gulick Park. A partial reconstruction plan for the site at Delancey and Willett streets was previously approved. Now thanks to additional funding, the whole project is about to get the go-ahead. This month, Mayor de Blasio awarded $2 million on top of the $6 million that had already been allocated for the project.  Yesterday, the Friends of Gulick Park gathered for “It’s My Park Day,” an afternoon of grounds maintenance and arts and crafts. The parks committee meeting meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the BRC Senior Services Center, 30 Delancey St.
  • On Wednesday evening, it’s the first open board meeting of the newly formed Seward Park Conservancy. The public is invited. As we reported in the past month, local residents have become frustrated by a general lack of attention from the Parks Department when it comes park maintenance. The conservancy is part of their solution to that problem. The meeting takes place Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m., at the Manny Cantor Center, 197 East Broadway.
  • Finally, the Parks Department has launched its “Capital Project Tracker.” According to city bureaucrats, the “tracker represents NYC Parks’ first step in streamlining the capital process to deliver projects more quickly and efficiently.”
