Rosette is Shuttering Saturday Night (Updated 9/6)

Eight months after opening, Ron Castellano’s latest project at 171 East Broadway is kaput. He tells Eater that Rosette will close for good after dinner on Saturday.  “My partner has been having serious health issues that need his full attention,” Castellano explained. “On top of that, we got an offer for the space that’s too good to pass up.”

Earlier this month, a new liquor license application for the space was posted on Community Board 3’s website. The name listed on the application is Andrew Yang. The menu submitted to the board features Chinese standards, such as sesame chicken and sauteed crab with ginger and scallion. Yang is scheduled to appear before CB3’s SLA Committee next week.

Nick Curtin, Rosette’s chef, recently relocated to Copenhagen.  The general manager, Lisa Limb, also made an exit earlier this month.  The space formerly housed two other Castellano ventures, LTO and Broadway East.  Castellano, an architect, is now floating the idea of reopening Rosette in Detroit, where he has been working on development projects.  He continues to restore the Jarmulowsky Bank Building, on Orchard Street, which is destined to become a boutique hotel. Castellano is also a partner in the Hester Street Fair, as well as nightlife venues Le Baron and Santos Party House.

 UPDATED 9/6: Danny Bowien is moving his wildly popular Mission Chinese Food to the Rosette space. The chef, who was forced to close his Orchard Street establishment late last year due to a persistent rodent problem, tweeted a family photo from outside 171 East Broadway yesterday. Eater was first to report the news last night.
