Additional details from the organization’s press release:

On Saturday, August 30, L.E.S. CREATIVE PEOPLE IN ACTION, Inc., a grassroots organization supporting the musical arts, will present their annual “Reunion of the L.E.S. Bands” at the East River Park band shell. They feature talent from the community for the people of the community celebrating the area’s musical culture. The event is free and accessible by F train to East Broadway and the M22 bus to the last stop at Jackson and Grand Streets. Launched in 2008, four friends who grew up in the housing projects of the Lower East Side pooled their experiences together for promoting singers and musicians. They utilized the renovated City of New York Parks and Recreation amphitheater in their own neighborhood, bringing residents back to the park. Since then, L.E.S. Creative People In Action have provided a platform for local artists and at the same time bring joy to the economically-challenged families living in the area, reuniting friends through the harmony of music. At that time, Council Member Alan Gerson and Lower East Side District Leaders John Quinn and Alice Cancel laid the foundation to help the group, and without missing a beat, current District 1 Council Member, the Honorable Margaret Chin, supported this cultural event for the last four years. “Reunion of the L.E.S. Bands” has attracted Congresswoman Nydia M. Velazquez, State Senator Daniel Squadron, and Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh to the multi-generational audience. In 2012, the Comptroller’s Office under John C. Liu presented the group with a Commendation for “distinguished leadership, dedicated service, and commitment to excellence and tremendous contributions to the City of New York.”
