The L.E.S. B.I.D. and Whole Foods Bowery are teaming up to fill a pop-up gallery with Lower East Side-inspired artwork inside the Whole Foods Market. An excellent community panel made up of Emily Aldredge (Education Alliance/Manny Cantor Center), Benjamin Krause (Krause Gallery), Keith Schweitzer (Fourth Arts Block), Kim Sillen (Artist & Designer of the Division Street Triangle mural) and Annie Wachnicki Sultan (New Musem) will select work from five visual artists to feature for one full month.
Alyson Valpone at Whole Foods tells us, “the type of work we are hoping to see and feature is visual art works (photography, drawing, paintings, etc) that are reflective of and/or inspired by the Lower East Side…Our partnership around this project with the LES BID aims to celebrate local art by providing local artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a community gathering space.”
Winners will be announced on Thursday, September 4th and will be included in the third annual LES Opening Night: Art + Fashion event, a celebration of fall art openings as well as a fashion show that takes place on Orchard Street on Sunday, September 7th.
The deadline to submit work is Monday, August 18th so, get to work!
