Here’s the scene at East River Park this afternoon.
Chris Castillo & Barbara Michelini sent along these photos, as well as the following report:
Trees are being cut down in East River Park as a result of the 2012 devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Approximately 40 have been cut down thus far and another 40 are due to come down. The foreman on the job, Kevin Wyatt, who works for Emerald Tree Care Company, informs that the trees were unfortunately affected by saltwater from the storm and, as a result, have either died or become a safety concern. Damage to the trees is evident in the hollow of the cut of the downed tree in (the) picture(s).
Sadly watched this take place. A real shame, they must be 40 years old or more. : (
While I’m sad to see so many trees come down, having so many dead trees in one area was both dangerous to be around and depressing to look at. One can only hope the Parks Department makes some effort to replant new trees in this area.
