Some restaurant news and notes to start off your week.
- The kitchen at Miller’s Near & Far turns out some of the best dishes on the Lower East Side, and now there’s a new one: jerk chicken with rice, beans, plantains and a Red Stripe beer, all for just $20. It’s a Thursday-only special, in honor of “Reggae Night,” when Miller’s dishwasher, DJ EZ Zeke, leaves the kitchen to spin turntables in the dining room at 65 Rivington St., just west of Allen.
- Cochinita Dos, the taco shop we profiled a couple of weeks ago, opens this Friday, May 9, at 49 Canal St. Owner Adam Frank is still waiting for word on his liquor license, but the kitchen is ready to serve the Cal-Mex cuisine first launched in Brooklyn. The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For pickup or delivery, call 212-226-TACO; there’s also a Cochinita App for iOS and Android.
- Sweet Chick, the chicken and waffles restaurant scheduled to open Wednesday in the former home of Max Fish at 178 Ludlow St., is experiencing some delays due to construction. The latest word from their rep on a new target opening date is May 19.
- Serious Eats introduces the family behind Patacon Pisao, the Venezuelan street food joint that’s expanding to Essex Street any moment now.
