As you might have heard, Lower East Side History Month is beginning this weekend. There’s a big kickoff at Pier 42 on Sunday. One of many cultural organizations taking part is the Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy. On Sunday, they’ll be holding the 6th annual Jewish Heritage Festival.
At 2 p.m., artist Leah Raab will be present in the conservancy’s Visitor Center for a presentation of her show, “Streetscapes of the Lower East Side.” There will also be tours of some of the neighborhood’s historic synagogues and a vintage goods benefit sale.
A longtime volunteer at the conservancy, Ruth Taube, is one of five people who will be honored with a “Community Hero Award” on Sunday afternoon at Pier 42. Taube has also been program director of Henry Street Settlement’s Home Planning Workshop since 1966. For more about the awards, click here.
