There’s always been an awkward dance between the State Liquor Authority (SLA) and local community boards.  The SLA is obligated to take into account community concerns before deciding whether to approve liquor license applications, but the process is often ambiguous.  Coming up May 6, there will be an opportunity to open the lines of communication in a public setting. Dennis Rosen, chairman of the State Liquor Authority, will appear at a joint meeting of Community Boards 1, 2 and 3.  Here’s a bit more info from CB3’s web site:

Meeting with SLA Chair and heads of  Licensing and Enforcement for Informational presentation focusing on questions / issues to better inform (community board) committee decisions on license recommendations, writing more effective resolutions, making more effective recommendations, including renewals. There will be Q & A with public at end as time allows.

The session will take place for 6-8 p.m. at the New Museum, 235 Bowery.
