A new commanding officer is taking charge at the 7th Precinct. According to an email from the community council, Deputy Inspector Peter Venice is being replaced by Joseph Simonetti, who was most recently assigned to Midtown South.  Venice is going to the 9th Precinct, in the East Village, while the commanding officer there, John Cappelmann, is being transferred to the 103rd Precinct in Queens.

Venice arrived at the 7th Precinct, which covers the area below east Houston and east of Allen Street, in mid-2011. Simonetti will be present at the community council meeting this coming Wednesday evening, 7:30 p.m.. It takes place in the station house at 19 Pitt St.

In the 7th Precinct, crime is up very slightly (less than 3%) over last year. There have been no murders, although there’s an uptick in felony assault (37 vs. 28 in the same period in 2013).
