The first signs of Extell Development’s pans for a huge new residential and commercial complex at the former Pathmark site on Cherry Street are starting to emerge. Preliminary documents popped up in the Department of Buildings database yesterday.
According to the “pre-filing,” the building at 227 Cherry St. (250 South St.) will be 68 stories. The total size of the project is listed as more than 1.2 million square feet. Nearly 24,000 square feet is set aside for commercial use; the rest is residential. There are 787 “dwelling units” planned.
The application indicates that Raizy Haas, a senior vice president at Extell, is in charge of the project. You can read more about her here. The architect of record is Nick Zigomanis of Adamson Associates, a firm that designed three World Trade Center towers, the Goldman Sachs headquarters and the Times Square Building.
Extell purchased the Pathmark site for $150 million. The store closed in late 2012, a development met with widespread displeasure in the Two Bridges community. Representatives of the company have promised local elected officials that a new grocery store would be part of their project. Extell has a reputation for very high end residential projects. No renderings are available just yet.
Demolition of the Pathmark store could begin as early as next week.

The architect of record of course is a technicality, not the ( most likely famous ) one who actually designs this structure.
Surprised they’re not building 68 stories on Orchard St. CB3 would approve that right?
