As we’ve been mentioning, the restaurant and nightlife scene around the intersection of Canal, Orchard and Ludlow streets has picked up a lot of steam in recent weeks, with the impending arrival of a variety of new eateries and bars. This week, an old-timer on the block joins the fun.

Clandestino, a laid-back, cozy haunt that The New York Times recently called “a bar bar,” has maintained evening-only hours since opening in 2005. This weekend, it will start serving at 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, owner Laure Travers tells us. A new bartender, Coretta Jarteh (who goes by CJ), is joining the staff this weekend as well, said Travers, who owns the bar with her husband Sean Benson.

The neighborhing gathering spot “will of course continue to be open every night until 4 a.m. as in the past years,” Travers said. “Come have an afternoon drink to our new venture!”
