San Marzano Closed For Good

There’s another Clinton Street restaurant casualty to report.  San Marzano, the pizza place at 71 Clinton St. (Rivington) has been closed for many weeks. A note on the restaurant’s web site indicated that the closure was temporary due to a burst pipe.  But today Grub Street noticed a bulletin from auctioneer Michael Amodeo, signaling San Marzano’s permanent demise.

The auction will begin at 3 p.m. today. Among the items to be sold: a “wood fire burning oven,” a walk-in refrigerator, a “four tap beer system,” an espresso machine and dining room furniture.

David Malekan opened the business in 2008, and just upgraded his liquor license last year.  It’s always tough going for Clinton Street restaurant operators.  Recently, the old Falai bakery space, just across from San Marzano, reopened after a lengthy remodeling. On the opposite corner, Black Crescent replaced Alias late last year.
