If you believe the guys hawking their wares on Orchard Street, bargains are available every day in the Lower East Side’s fading leather-goods district. The deals are especially enticing this afternoon at 131 Orchard St., the former home of MS Fashion. Thinking of going into retail?
According to an auction company, Eliot Millman, a “lease termination sale” is ongoing at the shuttered business. The listing says $300,000 worth of merchandise is available — including leather jackets, shearling coats for men, woman and children and fur coats for women. Incidentally, RKF has a listing for 131 Orchard St., which has entrances on both Orchard and Allen streets. There’s 1600 square feet on the ground floor plus a full basement. This block, between Delancey and Orchard, is one of the fastest changing stretches in the neighborhood. Several restaurants, including Contra and Black Tree, have opened in the past year. As the listing notes, Russ & Daughters’ cafe is scheduled to open at 127 Orchard St. early next year.
