Earnest Sewn Store at 90 Orchard Closing Soon; Outpost Sale Happening Now

Must Read

Earnest Sewn, the designer off-the-rack and custom jeans retailer, will be closing its store at 90 Orchard St. in the next several weeks.  Between now and then, the store is having a big sale.

As fashion trade magazines reported over the weekend, Earnest Sewn has been purchased by Anthony Frym, who owns a denim manufacturing firm in China and is in the process of establishing a production facility in Los Angeles.  More from Women’s Wear Daily:

Frym bought only the Earnest Sewn trademarks from the previous owner, Benoit Briere, and none of the company’s operations or retail leases. Two Earnest Sewn stores currently open in New York’s Meatpacking and Lower East Side neighborhoods will shutter by the end of the year. A new store operated by Frym will open in New York next year.

An “outpost sale” began last week, offering up to 70% off.   Earnest Sewn’s landlord is Mark Miller, who operates a gallery in the same building and is the former president of the Lower East Side BID.  He’s beginning to weigh what types of businesses to court once the clothing store vacates the prime space at the corner of Orchard and Broome streets.  The store was transformed into a saloon for a recent Cinemax tv shoot, but the retail operation was back in business by late last week.
