During the summer, Governor Cuomo’s post-Hurricane Sandy Community Reconstruction Program allocated $25 million to Lower Manhattan. Next week, the second of four public events will be held to solicit feedback as to how the money should be spent.
After pleas from local elected officials and community boards, the planning area was expanded to include the Lower East Side and other impacted communities. You can see the boundaries in the map posted above. The projects that will eventually be approved are intended to protect vulnerable communities and businesses from future catastrophic storms. The upcoming meeting happens Monday, December 2, at 6 p.m. at University Settlement, 273 Bowery. More information is available on the NY Rising website.
