Chris Burden: Extreme Measures, a survey of the iconic American performance artist and sculptor, opened today at the New Museum.
We previewed the show on Tuesday and were on hand to grab some video of the initial “big rev” of the artist’s piece, The Big Wheel. The piece is a kinetic sculpture in which the revving of a motorcycle engine sets a massive iron wheel in motion for a protracted two and a half hours, revealing the processes of energy transfer and storage.
