If you ask a lot of people, they’ll tell you New York just can’t compete with cities out West when it comes to Mexican food, but times are changing. There are definitely a lot more choices on the Lower east Side these days — and Mexican restaurants are stepping up their game.
As we continue to highlight some of the categories in out “Best of the Lower East Side” readers’ survey, we want to know your favorite spots for burritos, tacos and the like. Is it Barrio Chino, the Broome Street restaurant pioneer that packs ’em in on a nightly basis with killer margaritas and down-to-earth customer service?
Are you a fan of Taqueria LES, the more recent arrival on Orchard Street with a California vibe? Or do you prefer Calexico, the LES’s newest Mexican contender, Mole on Allen Street, El Maguey Y La Tuna on East Houston, Ludlow Street’s Los Feliz or Brooklyn Taco, the small outpost in the Essex Street Market?
They’re all getting some traction in our survey. Let us know your opinion. Click on the link below to vote for restaurants in 20 categories. The deadline is end-of-the-day Tuesday. You’ll see the results in the December/January edition of The Lo-Down’s print magazine.
