Best of the Lower East Side: Coffee Shops

This week we’re highlighting some of the categories in our Best of the Lower East Side reader survey. Today — it’s all about coffee.

There’s been a boom in coffee shops the last few years on the LES.  Places like Caffe Vita, 12 Corners, Pushcart, the Roasting Plant, Cafe Grumpy, Lost Weekend, Atlas Cafe and Irving Farm (formerly 88 Orchard) all have their devotees. Others prefer their corner bodega or longtime Lower East Side mainstays like Castillo de Jagua.  What’s your spot? Let us know about that and your other top picks across 20 categories.  Your opinion will help us prepare our Best of the LES guide, which will be published online and in our print magazine in December.  As a reminder, we’re defining the LES for this survey as below Houston and east of the Bowery. See below for the link our reader poll:

Cold brewed hot coffee?? Zulu’s recently opened on the corner of Allen and Delancey. They serve cold brewed coffee in the traditional iced coffee format as well as espresso and drip coffee. If you’re really lucky you might get a chance to meet the owner (Zulu) a Pyrenees Mountain dog and Border Collie mix.
