New York Fashion Week gets underway today and art galleries are preparing their first shows of the fall season. For the second year in the row, the Lower East Side is combining fashion and art for an opening night celebration.
The event takes place this coming Sunday from 4-8 p.m. More than 40 galleries are taking part, and there will be a block party on Orchard Street complete with a fashion show.
Shows will be opening at galleries such as DCKT Contemporary, Feature Inc., Allegra La Viola, Lesley Heller and Pocket Utopia. By Robert James and The Cast, two of Orchard Street’s fashion destinations, will be curating the music. The fashion show, at 6:30 p.m., will feature new looks from LES boutiques like Any Old Iron, Delicate Raymond Jewelry, Earnest Sewn, Epaulet, Lost Weekend, Quinn and Urban Cricket.
