In Lower East Side food news: Norman’s Cay prepares for an early October opening, Paulaner’s Brauhaus isn’t ready just yet and a high profile collaboration at 146 Orchard.
- The team behind Grey Lady plan to open Norman’s Cay at 74 Orchard St. October 9. It’ll be a Caribbean-themed seafood joint. The menu, says Time Out, will feature items such as “red snapper ceviche with aranitas (shredded plantain fritters), coconut shrimp with mango chutney, and chicken skewers with pickled onions and mojo sauce.”
- Paulaner Brauhaus on the Bowery was scheduled to open the end of September but looks like you’ll have to wait a bit longer. According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, “We wish you a Happy Oktoberfest! Looks like we won’t be able to celebrate with all of you but are looking forward to doing so soon. We will share updates regarding our opening when we have them.”
- Fear not, though. Loreley, the beer hall at 7 Rivington St. will be going strong this Oktoberfest to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The party goes on every night through Halloween but the big celebration happens this coming Thursday. According to the email we received, “Loreley owner Michael Momm’s alter-ego DJ Foosh will be spinning tunes along with DJ Evolution.” Two-thousand liters of beer will be on hand; food specials will include a pig on a Spit with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes ($15 per portion). A half liter of beer will run you $8.
- From Community Board 3: the team behind Frankie & Johnnie’s, the Times Square steakhouse, and and celebrity chef Aaron Sanchez want to take over the old Orchard House spot at 146 Orchard St. It would be a Mexican restaurant. They’ll go before CB3’s liquor licensing committee next month.
