The family-run restaurant El Aripo on Delancey Street tops our roundup of Lower East Side food news today.
- We profiled this local spot in the spring just before it opened in a storefront alongside the Williamsburg Bridge. Now New York Magazine touts El Aripo’s homemade arepas and empanadas, as well as the “seldom seen” patacón and pastelón, two Venezuelan style “gut busters.”
- Time Out takes a look at Contra, the Orchard Street restaurant that will be offering “seasonal tasting menus” when it opens on Orchard Street later this month.
- The Epoch Times pays a visit to the Experimental Cocktail Club.
- As we reported last week, Soho House goes to the State Liquor Authority Thursday in its continuing quest for a liquor license on the Lower East Side. As expected, the LES Dwellers neighborhood group will be there in force to urge the SLA to reject the proposed Ludlow Street club.
I’ve eaten at Aripo a couple times now and loved every bit of it. It’s nice to have more affordable places in LES, and I don’t mean BK or Mcdonalds. This place is legit.
