Today’s Lower East Side food/bar notes:

  • The Post reports Danny Bowien of “Mission Chinese” fame is opening “Mission Cantina” in the old Noodle Bar spot at 172 Orchard St. It will supposedly be a tequila bar and Mexican food spot.  “The design and seating of the 2300 square-foot space (are) being worked out now,” a spokespwerson told the tabloid. On Twitter this afternoon, Bowien issued this response: “Rumors are rumors. Tequila bar? I think not. Spokesperson? Who? What?”
  • The Boil, a six-month old Louisiana style seafood restaurant, gets some ink.
  • Hotel Chantelle has launched a summer-long lobster bake on its rooftop every Sunday night. For $29.95, your get a whole main lobster, steamed little neck clams, baked russet potatoes and corn on the cob.  They’re also offering $25 buckets of beer and Sunset Reggae by Marcus Burrows.
