Max Fish closes for good on Ludlow Street next week — say farewell to the Lower East Side institution tonight.

As Mass Appeal reported,  there’s a big party at 178 Ludlow St. tonight beginning at 9 p.m., including live music and a sendoff for “End of Days,” the art exhibition paying tribute to the creative spirit that made Max Fish much more than just a neighborhood bar.

Max Fish helped define Ludlow Street’s artistic edge when it opened in 1989.  But the street and the neighborhood have, of course, changed dramatically.  Facing rapidly escalating rents and a sense that the LES’s bohemian spirit has faded away, owner Ulli Rimkus decided to close the Manhattan location and open a new spot in Williamsburg. She spoke with us about that in May.
