Two pedestrians were injured last night after being struck by an intercity bus near the Manhattan Bridge.  The Fung Wah bus was pulling on to the bridge on its way through Brooklyn at around 11 p.m. when the accident happened.  The victims are hospitalized;  a 57-year old woman is listed in stable condition; a 63-year old man is serious but stable.

Police say the driver is not expected to be charged with any criminal violation.  he was given a ticket for failing to yield to pedestrians at a crosswalk. No passengers were aboard the bus at the time but traffic was backed up in the area for at least a couple of hours.

The Post reported that a fleet carrying yachts from the New York Boat Show at the Javits Center was held up due to the accident.  “You have to have an even temper driving these huge, oversized trucks through New York City, but I can tell you, the first thing I thought about was the poor guy driving that bus,”  Brian Christensen, the driver pulling one $800,000, 50 foot-yacht told a Post reporter. “It’s crazy driving down here. People just jump right out.”

The Fung Wah bus station is located at the foot of the Manhattan Bridge at Canal Street.  In 2008, one person was killed after  a dump truck crashed into a Fung Wah bus at this same location.

  1. Countless pedestrians are injure or die every year because drivers “failed to yield” especially when they are turning and you have the walk signal. At least you know you can get away with murder – just fail to yield and you’ll only get a silly ticket!
