Thousands of Lower East Siders are still coping with the after-effects of Hurricane Sandy: damage from power outages, loss of wages, children missing school and other difficulties. To help address some of these needs, the Legal Aid Society, the NYC Housing Authority and local elected officials will sponsor a resources and information clinic tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vladeck Houses Tenant Association Room, 328 Madison St.
The program offers the chance to speak to attorneys and staff members from the Legal Aid Society about a variety of issues:
- Food: SNAP-Replacement and enhanced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps) available for those living in affected areas
- Cash assistance: Public assistance, unemployment, FEMA
- Health care: Instructions on how to replace medications that are lost or inaccessible; advice on how to get access to urgent or primary care if you are not able to see your regular doctor or clinic; Public Health Insurance applications and assistance changing plans for current enrollees.
- Schools: Assistance with mid-term transfers.
