Following up on yesterday’s news that Raul Barrera will do 25 years to life for the murder of Sarah Coit, we have more news from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office this morning about another high-profile crime in the neighborhood.
Godfrey Molemohi, 54, was sentenced earlier this week to 15 years in prison on two counts of first-degree assault and two other lesser charges stemming from attacks on three victims — two women and a man who tried to intervene — in the F train station at East Houston Street and Second Avenue in September 2010, DA Cyrus Vance announced.
“The defendant’s vicious, unprovoked attacks on three strangers were part of a pattern of increasingly violent behavior that started with turnstile jumping misdemeanor convictions, and elevated to violent felony assaults,” Vance said in a prepared statement.

According to documents filed in court and statements made on the record in court, Molemohi approached a female victim inside the subway station, and stated, “I want to touch you. I want to touch you.” When the victim, a classically trained, multilingual, mezzo-soprano opera singer, tried to flee, the defendant punched her in the neck, injuring her. He then approached a second female victim and banged her head against a ceramic-tiled, brick wall. When a man who witnessed this second assault tried to help the second victim, Molemohi slashed him in the face with a box cutter, causing a deep laceration and permanent facial disfigurement.
The closure on Molemohi’s case follows last month’s sentencing of 29-year-old Michael Torres to 13 years in prison for his conviction of sexually assaulting a woman in the Bowery station near the J train platform in February of this year.
