Michael Torres.

Michael Torres, the man who pleaded guilty to a brutal attack in the Bowery subway station last winter, was sentenced yesterday.  According to the Post, prosecutors asked State Supreme Court Judge Carol Berkman for a 15 year sentence. She decided on at least 13 years.  The parole board will have the option of keeping Torres, 29,  in prison for the rest of his life.

The 36-year old woman was attacked on the J train platform last February around 1 a.m.  Prosecutors said Torres “repeatedly pulled the victim’s hair and hit her head against the train tracks and against the concrete wall between two subway lines” before sexually assaulting her.  An MTA worker came along while the attack with going on, scaring Torres away and probably saving the victim’s life.  Torres was arrested two days later with the help of surveillance video.

Torres had been charged with predatory sexual assault, a criminal sexual act in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree and other charges.
