FAB Festival, an Arts Extravaganza, This Saturday

This Saturday the Fourth Arts Block (FAB) will take over East 4th Street for its annual arts extravaganza.  The festival promises to be a fun afternoon lineup of free performances by local artists, with multiple indoor and outdoor stages showcasing dance, theater, & music, local artisans and gourmet food vendors, art installations, hands-on activities for families, as well as workshops for professionals and amateurs. Festivities take place from 1 – 5 p.m. Check out the highlights after the jump:

Performances Galore! Onstage and On the Street
Locating the Sacred: FABnyc teams up with the Asian American Arts Alliance as a site for their citywide Locating the Sacred Festival, running September 12-23, to present two hours (1-3PM) of work by Asian American Artists, including Japanese Taiko drumming, hula dancing, Hawaiian music, modern dance, hip hop, spoken word, and more.

Other Performers Include: Adam Wade, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, ARTS By the People, Downtown Art, cdza, ChristinaNoel & The Creature, East Village Dance Project, Flamenco Revolucion, Hammerstep, Krista Jansen, The Movement Party & invited guests, Nacho Arimany, Penny’s Open Mic, Lotus Music & Dance, Rod Rodgers Dance Company, and The Wild Project. Indoor Programming at The Kraine Theater
WOW! Wow Cabaret: Through song, dance, theater, poetry, and burlesque, Wow Café Theatre offers an eclectic sampler of what’s happening at the country’s oldest women’s theater collective.

Vaudeville Hour: Persona extraordinaire Brigham Mosley brings his alter ego, Mae Mosley, to the Kraine for Vaudville Hour, followed by Harrison Beck’s piano serenade, “Familiar Song, Forgotten Melodies.”

Off-Off Broadway At Its Best: The New York Innovative Theater Foundation, creators of the Innovative Theater Awards, presents a specially curated glimpse of Off-Off Broadway. For info about indoor seating and programs please visit: www.fabnyc.org/FAB_Festival.php
Dance It Out On Dance Block: Anyone can brush up on their dance moveswith numerous, FREE dance and movement workshops offered during the Festival, including Lotus Music & Dance will be offering Tahitian and Hula dance classes.

Activities All Afternoon
Lower East Side Museums: Three unique cultural institutions will be coming out to join the fun on East 4th. Festivalgoers can participate in a Bowery Artist Tribute Scavenger Hunt with The New Museum, or check out activities and information from The Ukrainian Museum and The Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space.

Other Activities Include: Cooking demonstrations and a recycling game with GrowNYC, arts activities for children with The Educational Alliance, massages by East Village Chiropractic, a scavenger hunt with New York Theatre Workshop, screen-printing with Works in Progress, and ArtUp public art installations.

Artisan Goods & Gourmet Food from the LES and Beyond
The Cart: The Cart, an artist run food cart, who had their world premier at last year’s Festival, features custom-made banana pops in a variety of flavors-from the classic Plain But Covered in Chocolate, to Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl, and more!

Mexicue Food Truck: LES favorite, the Mexicue Food Truck, will be on the block with savory options and their signature mix of smoky and spicy flavors. To salivate over the menu visit http://mexicue.com/
