Arts Watch: NYC’s New Music Festival comes to the LES

Must Read

There is a new music festival in town this week, and it looks like a good one. The inaugural NYC New Music Festival (NYCNMF) is bringing over 150 acts to 24 stages for five days, many of them right here in the LES, including Arlene’s Grocery, The Delancey, Nuyorican Poets Café, and Tammany Hall, which is hosting the festival’s Meet & Greet Party on the 28th.

Presented by the Songwriters Showcases of America, an organization that was founded in 1999 to create performance opportunities for original music artists, NYCNMF features mostly local and regional indie bands and songwriters. Musical styles cover just about every genre: rock, folk, blues, pop, jazz, country, hip hop and more.

The festival kicks off at 6:3pm on Wednesday at Under St Marks with a line-up that features the funk-tinged roots of NYC rocker Carl Banks, Indie Folk from Brooklyn’s Wine Teeth, and Rap from NYC’s The Sonnet Man, among others.

Tammany Hall’s Meet and Greet night features over 20 artists from around the country including New Jersey’s The Dead Marys, Boston’s Kevin Burgess Project, and Miami’s Lizzie Blazquez.

A $35 five day festival pass gets you into all venues and shows. For a complete event schedule and other info visit www.nycnmf.com
