The Lower East Side has a new hybrid boutique — the Hoodie Shop at 181 Orchard Street. it’s the brainchild of Aleah Speranza and Peter Shapiro, who’s behind the Brooklyn Bowl. They dreamed up the idea at a LCD Sound System concert (yes, really). The store carries vintage, outerwear, blazers, swimsuits and scarves. There are, of course hoodies, but other items as well (everything has a hood of some sort). Brands include Aviator Nation, Evenagamba, B. Scott, Kings of Cole, Nicholas K., and Oliver Goldsmith.
As the email we received yesterday explained, the entrance “is covered in a time bending swirl of plant-like feathers that engulf the space.” There’s a state-of-the-art video projection and sound system and ‘an elevated picture windowed dj booth.” The decor is retro. The “half retail/half hangout” concept will allow the space to “morph from boutique to movie theatre to living room to full scale event space.”
The Hoodie Shop is located at 181 Orchard Street (between Houston and Stanton).
