Scenes from National Night Out on the Lower East Side

Must Read

A very tall officer towers over Stanton Street.

Across the country and around the neighborhood last night, police, residents and local officials came together to celebrate National Night Out. The annual event is meant to strengthen ties between police precincts and communities and to make a strong anti-crime, anti-drug statement. We stopped by the 7th Precinct Community Council’s event, held on Stanton Street. There was a petting zoo, a dunk tank and free food.

As the festivities were beginning, police were called into action to break up a fight.  We were told it was the result of a long-simmering feud and that no one was hurt.

A few blocks uptown, the Campos Plaza Tenants’ Association hosted a separate party, along with PSA 4, the Housing Bureau precinct. Local politicians made the rounds at all of the NNO celebrations. See more photos after the jump.
