A follow-up on a story we reported earlier this month. This week, Community Board 3 approved a request from Comprehensive Kids Development School for a “no standing” zone at 383 Grand Street.
School administrators said they were concerned about the safety of students, who must navigate parked cars to get from school buses to the facility, located in the Seward Park Cooperative. The school serves special education students. At Tuesday night’s meeting, parents spoke in support of the proposal. Several children, including one in a wheelchair, were also in attendance.
A community board member, Rabbi Yissachar Ginzberg, had submitted a letter saying the “no standing” zone would be an “undue hardship” for the community. Ginzberg was not present at this week’s meeting (he’s traveling overseas) and there was no mention of his letter before the vote.
The “no standing” zone will be in effect weekdays from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. in front of 383 Grand.
Have to side with the Rabbi here. Unfair to the people who park there. Kids are getting too soft. Nobody has been injured as far as I know.
Oh, I see, so we have to wait until a kid gets hit or dies from an accident in order to be able to put a no standing sign. Wow, way to go. I didn’t know your car is more valuable than the life of a child. I also didn’t know those spots are the only ones in the area to park at.
Thank God there are people out there that do care for children’s safety and justice prevailed.
Thank you Bulldog4361, Is hard to beleive that people like David would site with a Rabbi that prefers to have cars parked in front of a school thus disregarding the safety of children, David must be related to the Rabbi. And David, your comment of kids “getting too soft”? Do you know that when you get old you also get “soft”, so think twice before labeling children as “soft” it might happen to you.

just want to make sure that David et al understand these “soft” kids are all preschool kids who are either developmentally and / or physically disabled.
