Tammany Hall Clubgoers in Court This Morning

Must Read

The three men and two women arrested in Tuesday night’s riot outside Tammany Hall music club on Orchard Street are facing a judge in a downtown courtroom this morning, while their supporters are organizing a protest there.

The brawl between the NYPD and fans of hip hop acts Smif-N-Wessun and Pete Rock, much of which was captured on video by bystanders, sent five police officers to the hospital, but also drew outcries of police brutality from club patrons and musicians.

Cynical Smith, a Brooklyn filmmaker and founder of Bucktown Entertainment, one of the organizers of Tuesday night’s CD release party, plans a press conference at the courthouse after the morning hearing.

The five people charged are:

  • Gabriel Diaz, 27, of 244 Bond St., Brooklyn, seven counts, including felony assault of a police officer and rioting, as well as lesser charges of obstructing a governmental administration, inciting to riot, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct. Diaz, whose arrest police say kicked off the riot, appeared in court wearing a neck brace this morning.
  • Cynthia Rosa, 21, of 145 Tremont St., New Britain, Conn., five counts, including felony assault of an officer, felony rioting, as well as obstructing a governmental administration, criminal obstruction to breathe (choking) and disorderly conduct.
  • Lewis Pena, 35, 238 Bond St., Brooklyn, four counts, including felony assault of a police officer and felony rioting, as well as lesser charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
  • Jade Everette, 24, of 450 W. 17th St., Manhattan, four counts, including felony assault of a police officer, felony rioting, and lesser charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
  • James Ayala, 32, of 9216 34th Ave., Queens, two counts, obstructing a governmental administration and disorderly conduct.

The Lo-Down’s Ed Litvak is at the courthouse; we will have an update later today.
