LES Jewish Conservancy Opens Visitor Center Friday

Must Read

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy plans to open the doors of its Kling and Niman Family Visitor Center on Grand Street Friday morning at 11 a.m., with an inaugural ceremony that’s open to the public and expected to draw local community leaders and elected officials. The center, where workers were laboring to finish construction this afternoon, will provide a headquarters for the organization’s historic tours, as well as offer exhibits about Jewish life on the Lower East Side.

The center was funded in part by donations from a descendant of the Kling and Niman families, and one of the exhibits already in place traces the geneology of the families through history and geography.

The Jewish Conservancy is an educational and cultural organization created in 1998 to help preserve, share and celebrate the neighborhood’s Jewish heritage, and has raised more than $2 million to protect historic buildings, among other accomplishments.
