This weekend marks the citywide celebration of public parks, with It’s My Park Day events throughout the five boroughs. Some events are on Saturday and some on Sunday, and you can participate in activities ranging from litter pickup and planting flowers to dog training and karaoke.

Gulick Park (along Delancey Street b/w Bialystoker and Columbia): The Friends of Gulick Park have scheduled cleanup and planting projects accompanied by the sound of karaoke on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Check out the group’s website to read about its yeoman’s efforts to improve this nearly 70-year-old greenspace, which is undergoing a redesign.
Corlear’s Hook Park (at Jackson Street and FDR Drive): Organizers of the East River Dog Run are hosting a cleanup and fun activities with canines from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. For details, see our story from last week.
East River Park (along the East River near Delancey St. bridge): The Lower East Side Ecology Center and the Green Team East River Park have organized major gardening projects, including landscaping with native plants, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Separately, the East River Park Track Club will hold an open meeting for runners at 3 p.m. at the East River track (near the 6th Street entrance), featuring guest speakers, info about the club and refreshments. The meeting is followed by a 4 p.m. fun run of 1.8 miles in the park.
Sara D. Roosevelt Park (Rivington St. b/w Chrystie and Forsyth): The organizers of M’finda Kalunga Community Garden are looking for volunteers to help shape up the garden for summer and set up the sandbox from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
