Henry Street Settlement Awarded $250,000 Grant for Job Training Programs

Must Read

The Henry Street Settlement’s Workforce Development Center has won a $250,000 grant from Microsoft.  The new funding will help the organization expand its technoloogy skills training and other programs on the Lower East Side. The grant was awarded through Microsoft’s “Elevate America Community Initiative,” which has helped 27 million people across the country since 2003.

The funding will give Henry Street added resources to reach “vulnerable individuals, including women and residents in (their) homeless shelters, as well as disadvantaged youth ages 18 to 25 who have greater barriers to employment and re-employment than the broader population.”  It will fund career counseling, technology skills training, job placement and additional support services such as childcare and transportation.

“We are grateful to Microsoft for this generous financial support which will allow Henry Street to serve even more community members, providing them with essential skills in today’s competitive marketplace,” said David Garza, executive director of the Henry Street Settlement.
