Justin Bond’s Christmas Spells Return to Abrons

Must Read

Justin Bond is returning to Abrons Arts Center for the Holidays with his wildly popular “Christmas Spells.” The light-hearted “show-tacular” is based on the short story “Dixie Belle: The Further Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” written by Kate BornsteinAs Bond explained in a recent NY Times Magazine culture feature, “It imagines Huck Finn as a tranny hooker in a brothel in New Orleans after the Civil War. It’s written as a letter Huck writes on Christmas Eve to Tom Sawyer to catch him up. So I start out as Huck, who’s now Sassy Sarah working in Madame Violet’s Parlor of Elysian Delights. Then the Pixie Harlots come out and bring the story to life. I think it makes sense because Huck had this love of outsiders while managing to walk a fine line with the conservative religious women who were feeding him. Who’s to say Huck didn’t end up being a tranny?” $25, $15 students // December 9-18 // 8 pm // 466 Grand Street.
