I Hate Hating – Opening Reception Tonight

Must Read

There’s an intriguing photography exhibit opening this evening at the Michael Mut Gallery on Avenue C. “I Hate Hating” is a collection of photographs (over 400) taken by Mut, featuring different people in various locations around the Lower East Side and the East Village, holding signs with racial slurs on them. The catch is, the people holding the signs don’t look anything like the instant stereotype that is evoked by the words. Mr. Mut created a moving social commentary just by posting all the photos on his personal web site here, but I bet they will be even better in person.  The gallery web site notes: Michael Mut Gallery intends to make a difference in the world by providing access to beautiful works of art that inspire contemplation, learning and positive growth and action. All photos courtesy of Michael Mut.  (More photos after the jump.)
