Weekend Guide

Trick 'R Treat, a Creep-Showesqe collection of scary stories at Midnight at the Sunshine Cinema this weekend

What to do with a gorgeous fall weekend on the Lower East Side?  We have plenty of suggestions:

Along with our Weekend Music Picks, The Lo-Down List and the L.E.S. Harvest Festival (not to mention the 5 foot tall Knish parading down Second Avenue) here are a few more items of note:

  • You can get in the mood for Halloween with Trick ‘R Treat, a fun and scary collection of four stories based on Halloween wives tales, at the Sunshine Midnight Movie – showing Friday, Saturday and Sunday, thanks to the Columbus Day holiday. The performances should be great; the film features Anna Paquin, Brian Cox and the fabulous Dylan Baker. $9.99 // Midnight // 143 E. Houston Street.
  • The giant, annual, OpenHouseNY Weekend is upon us. A chance to look inside some of New York’s most exclusive buildings, historical sites and architectural wonders – including our own Henry Street Settlement, Saturday and the Museum at Eldridge Street on Sunday. Download a guide on the website here or pick one up at the Fourth Arts Block headquarters – 61 E 4th St/ 2nd Ave, 12-6pm.
  • A selection of artists from the New Museum’s latest exhibit, The Last Newspaper, will be on hand on Saturday to  discuss “their use (and abuse) of the daily newspaper in their art practices, as well as the importance of the newspaper in their daily lives.” Featured artists will include Aleksandra Mir, Nate Lowman, and Sarah Charlesworth. Benjamin Godsill, co-curator of the exhibition, moderates the talk. $8, Free for members // 1pm // 235 Bowery.

Enjoy the long weekend!
