Stanton Street Shooting: Police Search for Gun

Must Read

Police are out in force today — searching for the gun used in last night’s Stanton Street shooting.  A squad car is parked in front of the luxury building at 196 Stanton — its lights flashing. Officers are handing out flyers offering a $1000 reward for “information leading to the arrest of anyone who possesses an illegal handgun.”

A witness who arrived on the scene moments after the shooting told the New York Times he spotted a woman on the sidewalk in front of East Village Wine and Liquors, 183 Stanton. The gunman shot two other victims, as well (all are expected to recover).  The Daily News reported the incident could have resulted from a “drug deal gone bad.”  Kerin Hoffman, who lives in a nearby apartment, told us police looked in trash cans and other locations for about an hour last night, presumably in search of the gun.

The shooting happened just a block away from the gentrified Clinton Street restaurant/bar district.  This particular stretch of Stanton Street is mixed.  That luxury building we mentioned, “The Stanton” sits right across from 189 Stanton, a small NYCHA housing development. The Stanton Street Shul is across the street from the liquor store.

If you have information about the gun used in this crime, call 866-GUN-STOP or 866-486-7867.
