Our friends at Arts for Art (a.k.a. VisionFestival) have sent word of a new work being presented by jazz musician and composer William Parker to open their series of art and performances, “Art In Gardens,” devoted to protecting our community gardens.

The premier of William Parker’s 15 Piece Bass Composition: Segments of Light (featuring fifteen bassists from New York City’s creative jazz scene) will take place at 2:30pm on Sunday, September 12th in the First Street Garden (next to 50 E 1st Street btwn 1st & 2nd Ave). They write:

In keeping with a sense of social responsibility typical of community gardens and Arts for Art, the piece is dedicated to the renewal of commitment to life and peace nine years after September 11th.

The In Gardens concert series will feature Sunday afternoons of acoustic creative music, spoken word and dance in community gardens in Manhattan and Brooklyn throughout September and October. Free and Open to the Public;  Suggested Donation of $5 for Performers.
