As you may have heard, many of New York City’s youth services are in danger of drastic cuts due to New York state’s budget deficit problems. On Saturday, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) will host it’s biannual Walkathon and Family Day Fair. This year they will be walking to raise funds for their youth programs.
They write: “We will bring together over 5,000 participants for a fundraising Walkathon and Family Day Fair with the theme Community Walks Today, for the Youth of Tommorow. We will kick off at Chinatown’s Columbus Park with a lion dance, speeches by community leaders, and CPC program performances. Starting from Columbus Park, participants will cross the Brooklyn Bridge, rally in Brooklyn’s Cadman Plaza, and then return to the park…We’ll also be having a Family Day Fair in Columbus Park, featuring games, vendors, raffles, a fashion show and performances from Asian-American artists…In 2008, our Walkathon raised over $127,000 for senior citizen programs. This year, we hope to reach $150,000 in funds.” Pledge forms can be picked up at 150 Elizabeth Street.
