Whimsical illustrator, live performer, VJ and videographer Shantell Martin‘s Project InsideOut OutsideIn, is at the Collette Blanchard Gallery through May 22nd.  Along with her show, Martin will be performing in collaboration with live bands, a cellist and a violinist, starting with “Drive In Theater” on Saturday at 6pm and “Person Line Drawings” on Sunday at 2pm.

Be sure to stop by the Hester Street Fair on Sunday because our friends at An Choi restaurant are co-sponsoring a benefit for the victims of the Grand Street fire. A week of events and promotions begins on Sunday with the Hester Street Fair Spring Clean Drop-off. The fair will be accepting new and gently used items to be sold. (from 10a-6p at Hester Street and Essex)

During the week of May 17-21, the following participating downtown restaurants will be donating partial profits from the week’s sales: An Choi – 85 Orchard Street, Barrio Chino – 253 Broome Street, Café El Portal – 174 Elizabeth Street, La Esquina – 106 Kenmare Street and Lovely Day– 196 Elizabeth Street.

As part of their Ways We Worship initiative, The Museum at Eldridge will present a FREE lecture, A Nation of Nudniks, with Dr. Allan Nadler on Sunday at 11am. They write: Judaism is characterized by ceaseless debates and arguments. Dr. Allan Nadler (Drew University) will explore the long-term effects of this contentiousness on the very nature of Jewish discourse and on the Yiddish-speaking community in America as it encountered Western conventions of politeness. Beginning with samples of remarkable rudeness in Hebrew rabbinical writings, Nadler focuses on the origins, contexts and uses in daily life of the vast array of insults and curses in the Yiddish linguistic arsenal.
