Mother’s Day on the L.E.S.

Must Read

Here are a few ways to celebrate Mother’s Day on the L.E.S. this weekend:

The movie, Babies, opens this weekend at the Sunshine Cinema and their Rattle & Reel series will offer a bonus screening on Mother’s Day at 11:30am. The documentary simultaneously follows four babies around the world—from birth to first steps: Ponijao, who lives with her family near Opuwo, Namibia; Bayarjargal, who resides with his family in Mongolia, near Bayanchandmani; Mari, who lives with her family in Tokyo, Japan; and Hattie, who resides with her family in the United States, in San Francisco. Read the NY Times review here. Adults pay normal admission prices but all babies are FREE!

As we mentioned earlier, The East Village Community Coalition will present PEDAL POWER 2010 – the Third Annual Kids’ Art Bike Parade! – on Saturday from 10a-2p in Tompkins Square Park. There will be food, music, a raffle, bike tune ups, bike decorating and, of course, the parade.

Moms get in FREE on Sunday at the New Museum – mention the Mothers Day Special and her ticket is FREE with your purchase of a general adult admissions ticket.

The Tenement Museum’s blog has some good suggestions for gifts for mom, including signed copies of Mom: A Celebration of Mothers from StoryCorps by StoryCorps founder Dave Isay and Ruth Reichl‘s latest memoir, For You Mom, Finally.
