Four Psychedelic Nights of Joshua Light Show at Abrons

Must Read

Starting tonight, Abrons Arts Center will host four unique evenings of live music and cinema featuring the iconic Joshua Light Show. Each evening is curated by vocalist and composer Nick Hallett (featured at the New Museum last spring), presenting live music from different artists, enhanced by the unique visuals of Joshua Light Show. Creating light shows for the first generation of NY discotheques in the ’60s, Joshua Light Show – led by mulitmedia artist and founder Josh White – were resident artists at Fillmore East and performed live behind all the major musical artists of the time: Frank Zappa, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and Jimi Hendrix.

Nick Hallett has selected four evenings of  musical artists, including Silver Apples aka Simeon Coxe and pioneering English electronic musician Sonic Boom and his band Spectrum, sharing an evening with Dean & Britta. Younger talent, culled mainly from Brooklyn’s music scene, rounds out this mini-festival, focusing on visionary, visual music. // 8pm // $15 advance, $20 at the door // Abrons Arts Center – 466 Grand Street.
