Earlier this morning, EV Grieve posted some of the highlights from last night’s SEVEN hour CB3/SLA meeting. Keith Masco’s restaurant/seafood market on Avenue A got the green light… Michael Huynh’s DOB on St. Mark’s Place was rejected… TPoutine was turned away (again)… and Neway (the Eldridge Street karaoke bar) was denied a renewal.
We arrived late and most likely slipped into a coma sometime around 11 o’clock. But in-between those lapses, there were a few items that caught our eye:
- The committee voted not to support a beer/wine license for “Melted,” the grilled cheese restaurant planned at 101 Stanton Street, the former Organic Avenue shop. One resident told the committee, “I urge you not to grant this license. I can’t express how hellish this place has been and how criminally irresponsible the city has been… our doorway is a public urinal.” Another guy (who’s lived in his apartment for 9 months, said it’s time to hold the line against the “yelling, defecating mobs.”
- The Meatball Shop beat back a single opponent, winning support for a three-table sidewalk cafe. A neighbor was rather agitated about “loud bass” emanating from the restaurant. Co-owner Michael Chernow said he was willing to do whatever is necessary to alleviate his concerns. Committee members noted the resident had not actually spoken to Meatball Shop management about the problem.
- CB3 approved of An Choi’s plan to expand into the space next door, adding 24 seats.
