This morning, our friend, photographer and general neighborhood “Eagle Eye” A. Jesse Jiryu Davis noticed the scaffolding going up outside the Slipper Room, at the corner of Orchard and Stanton (this pedestrian photo is not his handiwork, btw). We contacted Slipper Room founder James Habacker for the scoop on what’s happening.
He said the landlord of the one-story building is adding a second floor to the club. The new space will have 16 foot ceilings, a mezzanine and improved “sight lines” throughout the interior. They’re still operating out of the Orchard Street space, but Habacker said he’s in the middle of working out a deal to move his shows to an alternate location while the heavy-duty construction takes place. The Slipper Room is best known for its raunchy burlesque performances but also features variety shows and other programming.
