Community Board 3 Highlights

Must Read

There were several interesting tidbits from last night’s Community Board 3 meeting. Later today we’ll have a detailed report on the debate over the “Houston Dee,” the luxury rental building planned for Houston Street and Avenue D.  Here’s what else happened:

  • Margaret Chin made her first appearance at CB3 since becoming Lower Manhattan’s City Councilmember earlier this month.  In her report to the board, Chin said she recently toured the World Trade Center site and got a fascinating look at the new subterranean  transportation hub. She also said Patricia Olan, who worked for former Councilmember Alan Gerson, has joined her office as a community liaison.
  • Several residents came to support the pizza restaurant 11B, in its quest for a liquor license. The restaurant also presented the board with a letter of support from City Councilmember Rosie Mendez. But nonetheless CB3 decided to stick with the SLA Committee’s recommendation to deny the request.
  • District Manager Susan Stetzer reported that the Manhattan Bridge reconstruction project will begin in March. The city will brief CB3’s transportation Committee next month.
  • CB3 Chair Dominic Pisciotta said he would be attending a meeting Friday with other community board members, elected officials and the NYPD to address concerns about the downtown terror trials.
