Dessert Truck Goes “Brick and Mortar” on LES

Must Read

Per Eater, the Dessert Truck, which took the city by storm until being curbed by the Health Dept., is coming to the LES. They’ve decided to set up shop at 6 Clinton Street, near Houston. Here’s the email from Dessert Truck owner Jerome Chang:

We would like to announce our upcoming move to 6 Clinton Street (LES) where we’ll be opening up shop sometime within the next few months. We cannot give an opening date because the lease has just been signed. And no, the project will not be called “DessertTruck Stop.” The name is TBD. This next DessertTruck project will remain true to our ideals of quality, affordability and accessibility. We will feature our DessertTruck menu along with plenty of new items. We’d also like to thank everyone for their enthusiastic support.

UPDATE: In an email to The Lo-Down Jerome clarifies the following point: “the Department of Health did not shut us down for any health code violations. Rather, they refused to renew our business partner’s permit based on a technicality during the permit renewal process.”

Also from the “clarification files,” the Times has this to report:

The Dessert Truck folks may be  setting up shop at a storefront at 6 Clinton Street, as Eater reported, but that doesn’t seem to mean that Michael Huynh’s plans for a restaurant there are dislocated. In an email message, he said he and the Dessert Truck’s yet-to-be-named place can co-exist. “Same landlord, same address but right next door,” he said. He didn’t elaborate. He said earlier that he plans to open a place there called B Clinton, where he will do the cooking, serving three-course $29 prix fixe Vietnamese dinners that change nightly.
