Community Board to Discuss Fate of 180 Ludlow

Look for an interesting debate at tonight’s community board meeting concerning the future of 180 Ludlow, the stalled hotel project across the street from Katz’s Delicatessen. The issue is on the agenda of the land use, zoning and housing committee. The owners ran out of money to complete the project, right next to the luxury apartment building known as “The Ludlow.”  Now, they are apparently trying to convert the planned hotel into a residential apartment building – and want Community Board 3’s support. The likely sticking point? How much of the building would be devoted to affordable housing? Here’s what the developer, Serge Hoyda, said about the hotel project, on his web site:

Hotel Ludlow will be a new, nineteen story, independently-run boutique
hotel, featuring 170 guest rooms including several large suites, a
signature restaurant, a basement spa, a fitness center, a business
center, a sun deck and an exclusive rooftop lounge. The hotel will be a
contemporary building with floor to ceiling glass, designed by the
office of H. Thomas O’Hara Architects. Hotel Ludlow is currently under
construction and should open to the public early 2009.

The meeting takes place at 630pm, 59 East 4th Street (near Bowery).
